ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the various types of drawings that may be created during design, as well as before it and after it. They are Consultation, Instruction and Experiential drawings as well as Diagrams, Calculation, Fabulous and Proposition drawings. What each of these types of drawings can do and cannot do are discussed. The apparently fundamental need that many designers have to draw, and why, is also discussed. The notion of the designer having a conversation with the drawing is introduced. The need to learn to draw as well as make models and use computer representations is discussed.
