ABSTRACT

This chapter takes a hard look at the activity of managing a design process. It may be a process of reflecting on actions taken so far and possible future directions. It may control the speed and depth at which the designer works at any time. It allows such apparently illogical actions as making design propositions before understanding or even identifying the problems. The reasons why we may manage design processes in such special ways are traced back to the kinds of problems they pose, which were identified in the previous chapter.
