ABSTRACT
The discussion of this item was led by representatives of the world’s two oldest parliamentary associations, the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), founded in 1889, and the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, in augurated in 1911 as the Empire Parliamentary Association. The SecretaryGeneral of the CPA, Mr Arthur Donahoe, spoke on behalf of the latter; he was followed by the Deputy Secretary-General of the IPU, Mr Anders Johnsson, speaking on behalf of the former.
