ABSTRACT

The discussion of this item was led by representatives of the world’s two oldest parliamentary associations, the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), founded in 1889, and the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, in­ augurated in 1911 as the Empire Parliamentary Association. The SecretaryGeneral of the CPA, Mr Arthur Donahoe, spoke on behalf of the latter; he was followed by the Deputy Secretary-General of the IPU, Mr Anders Johnsson, speaking on behalf of the former.
