ABSTRACT

It seems like there is a theory for everything! However, until now, no theory has specifically addressed the phenomenon of falling out of romantic love (FORL). At face value, that may not seem important.

Chapter 5 assists the reader in understanding why a sound theoretical approach is essential. First, it helps us understand how and why FORL occurs. Just as importantly, it guides clinical treatment recommendations, so people can live a better life!

Due to the lack of such a theory, the author, armed with doctoral-level training and research, along with decades of experience as a couple’s therapist, developed the Megatheory of FORL: Romantic Relationship Formation, Maintenance, and Outcomes.

The Megatheory of FORL was inspired by many theoretical frameworks, and even Iowa weather. Tornadoes are unpredictable and potentially dangerous; however, they can also be amazingly beautiful and mesmerizing. The same applies to romantic love and FORL!

Just as one heeds tornado warnings, heed the author’s warning. Don’t skip this chapter! It’s essential to understanding the dynamics of love and FORL in intimate partner relationships.
