ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces interperformance, a framework that challenges the concept of performativity that has been fundamental to scholarly understandings of gender and sexual identity formation over the last thirty years. Interperformance suggests that identities are produced through relations between bodies, environments, language, and ideas and are thus subject to frequent change as we meet new people, move through space, and come into contact with new concepts.
