ABSTRACT

Before Caroline actually fell off her bike a lot happened both internally and externally. The rope incident continued to be re-enacted over a period of ten sessions. The author found himself representing a little girl, or several little girls, while Caroline became a child who was trying to warn “us” that this is an unsafe place that we shouldn’t enter. In between enactments and behaviour that verges on autism there is a growing capacity to talk like two adults who can think about what happens to her – like a therapist with a neurotic patient. The author always find these talks amazingly enlightening – like a beam of clear light in the ocean of darkness. Caroline decides to write to her youngest sibling, the only one she trusts, about her bike accident and her thoughts that it has to do with the past, without giving any details.
