ABSTRACT

Singapore is well known for its long-term planning, which by definition requires the construction of a vision of an anticipated future. Previous chapters have elaborated various trends concerning the evolution of dimensions of established diversity, as well as the emergence of societal forces which appear to be coalescing into elements of new diversity. Although we can speak of families, communities, and interest groups, as part of our planned future, future reality construction will be deeply impacted by the pace and depth of technological change. This chapter features an imagined group of 30 personas, based on our interviews, focus group discussions, and trends analysis. They serve as a rich source of insight into the complexity of these social forces, which will impact on the Singaporeans living in the future – in 2040. Ultimately, Singapore’s evolving diversity will depend on the choices individuals make as their options multiply.
