ABSTRACT

This chapter offers a framework that not only explores and explains the stance of the Indian manager across four leadership polarities but also, in order to deconstruct the two archetypes of Ravi and Hema referred throughout the book, offers two broad perspectives, P1 and P2, that are based on our understanding of human collectives.

The P1 perspectives integrates the Homo economicus, the Rational Ingenieur and the agonic mind-sets, while P2 integrates the Homo reciprocans, the Bricoleur, and the hedonic mind-sets.

The chapter explores how these two perspectives create an inner dissonance within the Indian manager as he or she seeks to live up to P1, as demanded by modernity, and yet is aware of the pull of P2m, which is influenced by the civilizational codings and culture.
