ABSTRACT

Faith in the white supremacy-generated belief that African Americans are inherently inferior is not very strong among most Americans. White nationalism was in a dormant state until the unique and unusual candidate Barack Obama came forth and reversed the social order of the racial universe. Improving the incomes of those who feel dispossessed by minorities might reduce the numbers of white Americans who believe that their economic life chances are being reduced by employers who hire minorities. There is a serious lack of education and limited job experience among white working-class men identified as disproportionately located in specific middle-American counties. In American history, public policies often drive discrimination and prejudice. Public employment can rebuild schools and other community assets, often rundown because of a diminishing tax base. White Americans, regardless of education, should become aware of the discriminatory practices, either consciously or through institutional design, against minorities.
