ABSTRACT

Many film students get internships on films as a Camera Trainee or Camera Production Assistant (PA), which gives them a foot in the door once they finish film school. The Camera PA helps the camera crew with any necessary duties. This chapter discusses many of the job assignments and responsibilities given to the Camera Trainee and/or Camera PA as they apply to each phase of production: preproduction and production. The First and Second Assistant may have the Camera Trainee or PA come along on the camera prep so that they can learn about all of the equipment. They may all get together to prepare the list of supplies and expendables needed for the shoot. The Camera Trainee or PA has little if any contact with the laboratory during any phase of production with the possible exception of picking up the various lab supplies needed by the camera department.
