ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the progress in reorganising the transport region up till now, followed by an analysis in the theoretical setting of organising capacity. It considers the co-ordination of regional economic development, followed by an analysis in the light of organising capacity. Munich region is well known for its high living standards and solid economic performance; it is counted among the most successful regions of Europe. Munchner Verkehrs- und Tarifsverbund is under outside pressure; the transport system itself experiences pressure from within the region. On the local level the political conditions are unfavourable because of the somewhat awkward relationship between the city on the one hand and counties and municipalities on the other hand. The Munich region is one of the most successful regions in Europe, with healthy economic growth, a low unemployment rate- compared with other metropolitan regions-, a high quality of life and a strong, diversified economic structure.
