ABSTRACT

This chapter summarises some of the key points the book to contextualise and discuss what we now know about threesomes. In sum, it is argued that threesomes are a complex and multi-faceted sexual behaviour with both positive and negative elements to them. In addition, while similar to other forms of consensual non-monogamy, they also have some distinct features to them. Finally, it is contended that while threesomes may be a part of monogamous culture, simultaneously, they are also able to challenge monogamy. In addition, some suggestions are also provided in regards to how this research can be used to further our understanding of other theories related to gender and the study of sex, offer insights and directions for future research, and highlight the importance of complexity in future threesome research.
