ABSTRACT

In Chapter 3, we present a series of assessment management routines teachers can use to manage the collection of student work. Such routines are needed to maintain a sense of order in the classroom and reduce the overwhelming feeling experienced from an overflow of student work. The routines offered address the task of getting, storing, and keeping track of student work. Some of the routines we describe include teacher gathering procedures for collecting student work, the use of checklists or other forms to keep track of the work collected, and routines for collecting observational data. We conclude with some considerations related to collecting student work such as thinking about what is important to document, and the use of digital systems to facilitate collection procedures.
