ABSTRACT

The temporal dimension of criminal events is discussed in Chapter 12. As discussed in previous chapters, environmental criminology is concerned with asking where and when a criminal event occurred. This chapter begins with a theoretical model that shows how closely related time and space are when considering criminal events. Moreover, a temporal theory of crime generates very similar spatial patterns as those in the geometric theory of crime. Subsequently, this chapter covers some of the temporal regularities of crime. These temporal regularities occur over the course of the day, the week, the season, the year, even the decade.
