ABSTRACT

Thrive is an approach to supporting children which is promoted and held by a private company. The Thrive Online tool will then support the school practitioners to plan a social and emotional curriculum for individual class members and will also suggest specific strategies and activities. The Thrive approach of understanding the behaviour of children and young people as a way of communicating can offer a key starting point in reducing exclusions, as this understanding may act as a buffer for practitioners. The Thrive approach, with its use of attachment theory and focus on understanding that creative and play approaches can support the developmental needs of some children, links to inclusive approaches of understanding difference, adapting provision and being open to different outcomes for learners. The Thrive approach provides support for school settings to put provision in place through a process of group profiling using the Thrive Online tool, leading to some individual pupil profiling.
