ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author shares what the author understands to be the philosophy of the prestigious institution of highest learning. The author shares his/her experience as a student of Da Vinci and Trans4M in his/her research to innovation journey. The Da Vinci Institute was established in 2004 as a School of Business Leadership, focusing on developing business leaders. Da Vinci is modelled on a Mode 2 University, transdisciplinary in nature focusing on creating knowledge that is relevant in the world of work, with a view to improving the bottom line. To what level Da Vinci actually operates as a Mode 2 university can be the subject of debate, but the fact is that it is probably the nearest Mode 2 institution available. Da Vinci subscribes to David Kolb’s theory of learning through experience and believes in Systems Thinking as a Promoter of Organisational Learning. The author aims to focus on knowledge creation according to David Kolb, and link this to the Mode 2 University.
