ABSTRACT

This chapter provides domestic finance has investigated the extent to which financial organisation acts as a powerful determinant of who has power and how it is distributed in the household. However, the lower the woman's earnings, the more critical they are for household survival. There is little research on 'race' differences of domestic finance which exist within households. Male involvement in household organisation and collective expenditure can vary by class, culture, and ‘race’ and personal orientation. Domestic finance is an indication of one of the ways power is distributed in households and reflects the relationship between a woman's earnings and her control. There is an 'internal economy' of households and that economy is based upon the domestic financial organisation that takes place within households. The 'internal economy' of households varies by gender, status and 'race'. Examining the financial organisation of South Asian women will enable to investigate the influence of 'race' and culture upon domestic financial control and distribution.
