ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews several processes in which multiple systems must coordinate. Often times, particular processes see gaps in educational service for many counties in Colorado so they are formalized. The review of county processes for Best Interest Determination (BID) meetings is the first step in improving this system procedure. As a team, facilitate a discussion about the child welfare intake process and how BID meetings are currently occurring in each case. Design and/or improve the BID flow chart to reflect both emergency and non-emergency removals to show how each differs for education purposes. Clarification and consistency ensure that the BID meeting occurs within timeframe requirements with all parties after the youth is removed. The action team or an appointed sub-committee should take the time to review all transition planning procedures that currently exist for all types of transition that can occur in a youth’s life span.
