ABSTRACT

The Legislators look to its scientific committees for the scientific facts, advice and guidance on the subject matters they are creating policies on. In this case, this committee is The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), which is supposed to be 'an independent public body that provides national guidance and advice to improve health and social care in England. It is really quite extraordinary that in the current economic climate of austerity, the State continues to fund the Improving Access to Psychological Therapies project rather than cutting it back along with everything else. In actual fact, the government has actually increased its spending on the project by hundreds of millions of pounds over the years. This has been the case since 2004; and they have each done so claiming that this is because they are concerned about the wellbeing of its citizens; that they really truly care about us and our 'mental health'.
