ABSTRACT

This chapter highlights what Americans are doing and can be doing, and what other countries are doing. On June 1, 2017, the United States (US) President stunned the world when he announced that America would pull out of the Paris Agreement. In America, there has been an effort to live up to the Paris Agreement regardless of Donald Trump's withdrawal. The United Nations is the most important venue and organization for international collaboration of all sorts, and, besides, it is the chief sponsor and facilitator for collaboration involving the climate. Technically and financially, renewables are a snap–at least for rich countries–but in terms of 100% international participation, it is an enormous and unprecedented challenge. Standing out, and to conclude with, American citizens need a better understanding of the consequences of the U.S.'s withdrawal from the Paris Agreement–specifically, that by not complying with the treaty, the US can harm the entire world by accelerating global warming.
