ABSTRACT

The Fabergé family, under the direction of Carl Fabergé, were the leading jewellers, goldsmithing and enamelling firm in Russia from the 1880s until 1917. At the peak of production they maintained a large workforce, including enamellers, making objets d'art which were outstanding in their innovation of designs and flawless craftsmanship. The pieces made under Fabergé have been described as being 'almost the last expression of court art within the European tradition'.
