ABSTRACT

An English silversmith, born in Sheffield, where he initially trained. Following the award of a scholarship to the National Art Training School at South Kensington, London, in 1895, he travelled in Europe. He set up a workshop in London in 1898, in partnership with Alwyn Carr (1872-1940), a fellow student and also a scholarship winner. The first commission, in 1899, was a mace for the city of Sheffield. The partnership was dissolved in 1919, with Ramsden continuing the workshop in London.
