ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces Recall, the information retrieval language which is provided as an integral part of the Pick operating system. The attraction of Recall is that with a little training librarians can generate both regular and ad hoc reports, not offered in the current version of the Dynix software. Dynix recognize the potential of Recall and offer courses for both the beginner and advanced users of Recall. The aim of the chapter is to give readers a taste of Recall and encourage Dynix users who have not taken advantage of the courses on offer or the potential of Recall, to do so. The main commands and sentence structure and rules are outlined, giving library-based examples to illustrate particular points. The training offered by Dynix and the associated Recall module are discussed. The final section is an account of the use made of Recall in Glasgow Polytechnic Library, within each of the main modules.
