ABSTRACT

The Cataloguing module maintains the integrated database which is the hub of the whole system. This module provides the primary means for building and maintaining the bibliographic database. The database accommodates every MARC and non-MARC format required by the library. New records can be loaded on an ongoing basis from optional direct interfaces to BLAISE, OCLC, RUN, WLN, MARCIVE, Bibliofile and others. The module offers automatic indexing, authority check and automatic deletion of duplicate records. This chapter is organized to mirror the layout of the main cataloguing master menu (MAST) and this is illustrated. As is common with other modules option 2 on the main menu administers Codes and Types. These all have to be set up at the installation phase in the implementation of the Dynix software, so readers new to Dynix, may prefer to refer to this section first. The bulk of the work in this module will be performed from the main cataloguing menu (MCAT).
