ABSTRACT

The amount of work and decision-making involved with the installation phase can come as a shock to libraries embarking on this type of project for the first time. This chapter discusses the major topic of installation through its main stages. Installation consists of various phases, namely the finalizing of the contract, the pre-installation manuals and the related decisions, the pre-installation training meeting, installation of the hardware and the options for the main data load. The chapter also examines the type of training and how much can be expected from Dynix. The arguments relating to the need for a comprehensive in-house training policy for both new staff and ongoing for existing staff, with particular reference to the training module developed in conjunction with Cambridgeshire County Libraries. Formal cataloguing training normally takes place at this point and library personnel are given the chance to work with the data before finalizing the data load.
