ABSTRACT

Families are of different structures and forms, even though the traditional definition is limited to the domestic units or households made up of persons related by blood, marriage or adoption. The household shares cooking facilities and provides sleeping arrangements. Socialization is the process of rearing children to take social roles in society. Socialization of the young within the family is a key process in developing people capable of conducting the kind of auto-construction described. Among the problems facing families in the modern world is a sense of confusion about their place in the changing world - as families. Families are themselves in trouble. Problems of families are 'generalized' in that similar problems are apparent in families around the world, and they stem from similar global 'winds of change.' As the world's problems have come to be recognized as interrelated, efforts have begun to emerge suggesting global solutions.
