ABSTRACT

On the Tibetan face of the Himalayas may be discerned two chains of peaks parallel to the great range, thus making with the latter three parallel ranges. The first march was only 4 miles along the plain to the small village of Chugya, or "The Pearly White Water," glancing white in the sun at the foot of the Tang Pass. A Chinese major, called on the General, and informed him that he had been sent to supersede Colonel Chao in command of the troops in Chumbi, because the latter had failed to keep people out of the valley. Thus the Dalai Lama has received advice and information from more than one outside source, from Nepal and from Bhotan. From the point of view, it was curious to see that British flag, in passing under Chumolhari, seemed to be reflected on the face of that mountain, has cross-like ledges in its strata.
