ABSTRACT

Curiosity as a human attribute has been thought either to originate from within or to be a response to the outside world. The question is, therefore: where does curiosity come from While it may be easily accepted that human intellectual curiosity must have some relationship to brain structure, or at least, to underlying neuronal configurations, no relationship can exist at the other end of the spectrum. Cultural presuppositions plays their part in reflecting the mores and attitudes within society and the perspectives will infect the way questions are posed – even within a scientific setting. Science is carried out by scientists both amateur and professional. The problem from the research point of view is that a huge amount of futile effort has gone into trying to find evidence for black hole event horizons. From a sociology of science perspective, competition between groups has been the driving force, in this instance, for one group to abandon reason.
