Introduction

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book provides to make the development of ideas throughout this book as clear as possible. It situates the research in the discipline of bioethics. The book explores in detail the many postmodern notions which underpin this research. It applies the theoretical notions introduced in the previous chapter to an exploration of the research method adopted for this study. The book begins the task of sharing with the reader a description of the material collected. It introduces the second significant discourse for consideration: Karuna Hospice Service’s (KHS) Buddhist discourse. The book explains the discussion from the specific Buddhist metaphysic to a more generic discourse on spirituality which arises from the language/texts. It situates the language/texts which relate to KHS’s successful negotiation with the system in the context of hospice development world wide.
