ABSTRACT

This chapter emphasises the link between VET and national and regional economic development to promote new industrialisation. Efforts are made to promote institutional reform and deepen educational reform, such as encouraging ongoing curriculum development, strategic transition and reform of the VET system, as well as upgrading the school management system. A number of important issues have been elaborated in this chapter: (1) the educational reforms implemented in vocational schools to serve national and regional development as well as taking students’ interests and needs into consideration; (2) teachers’ development through the efforts made by schools and teachers themselves to improve their knowledge, skills and teaching capabilities in order to achieve a better student learning experience; (3) the efforts being made to cultivate students’ abilities, skills and professionalism as well as developing students’ potential careers, thus placing students at the centre of VET.
