ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the R4R therapist is provided guidance on how to conclude the R4R group cycle. The therapist follows up on and extends discussion from the last session regarding remaining points of tension and disconnections that may threaten recovery, effective patient and caregiver responses, termination themes and feelings, and discharge needs. The therapist reviews the homework assignment (handout about future plans) from the last session to help members continue to identify future supports, strengths, group accomplishments, next steps, and future goals. Guidance is provided on how to obtain member verbal and written evaluation of the group. Patient and family discharge group evaluation questionnaires are provided as examples of how to obtain detailed written group feedback at the close of the group. The group concludes with final goodbyes and reminders of any follow-up meetings, which should occur ideally six months after treatment, to collect information on eating disorder, mood, quality of life, and relational outcomes. The chapter concludes with an outline of Session 16 main goals and handouts.
