ABSTRACT
According to Emerson (1992), the principles of normalisation have their roots in Denmark's Mental Retardation Act of 1959, where the aim was to:
create an existence for the mentally retarded as close to normal living conditions as possible (Bank-Mikkelsen, 1980).
