ABSTRACT

Much of the analysis in this book centres on how cultural and religious values influence entrepreneurial ethics and trust relations in business transaction. The distinct characteristics of the study are as follows: First, it investigates the role of Hausa and Islamic cultural values in shaping specific entrepreneurial ethics in northern Nigeria. The use of three case studies with considerable variations in cultural and economic potentials is therefore considered adequate. Case studies are useful in providing an understanding of areas of enterprise or organisational function that is often not well documented or amenable to investigation by other methods. This chapter examines the basic determinants and management of profit in the economic environment. It reviews patterns of seasonal labour fluctuation and their impact on the business sector in Kano and northern Nigeria as a whole. The chapter among other things looks at corruption and business fraud and their implications for economic development, in Nigeria.
