ABSTRACT

The focus of this chapter is the experience and legacy of sexual trauma for the young person, including the developmental impact of this experience through adolescence. The author analyses the context of the sexual violation and how the therapist’s appreciation of this context shapes interventions and therapeutic contact. Dilemmas and implications of disclosure for the adolescent are discussed and the dynamics of therapeutic intervention are outlined. Case studies are presented which offer insight into the therapeutic process with sexually traumatised adolescents.
