ABSTRACT

Adolescents who have previously received diagnosis of neurodevelopmental or psychiatric disorder frequently engage in therapy. The author presents a description of the therapeutic process with adolescents who have been labelled with such disorders as autism, ADHD, schizophrenia, bipolar or borderline personality, further extending this analysis with the inclusion of a number of case vignettes. The reader is shown how a compromised capacity for contact is at the heart of each of these presentations is offered and exploration of how therapeutic work can support the cultivation of richer contact within the adolescent’s lifespace is included.
