ABSTRACT

Based on the recent evolution of AI research and development, AI is most likely to make major disruptive changes in our society, and society and policy makers need to prepare for a future with AI. And whether we like it or not, this lack of preparation is not just limited to the uninformed and unaware among us, and this indifference among policy makers is a reason to worry. History tells us that adapting to change has always been a fundamental principle for the survival of humankind. Existential risk is only one part, as AI might or might not eventually become superior to the human brain, but the impact on jobs is an immediate threat. AI research, like any other field that promises big, has seen cycles of ebb and flow in enthusiasm, but this time it really looks unstoppable.
