ABSTRACT
Parents in contact with the project painted a varied picture of life in the Henley area. This chapter focuses on parents’ experience and views of trying to bring up their children in the area. It draws on interviews, discussions and group meetings with local parents — mostly mothers — who worked with during the project. In the Henley area many parents were afraid to let children out in public spaces on their own because of crime, drug dealing, bullying, dangerous debris and rubbish in open spaces and high rates of traffic accidents. Many parents stated that one of the good things about living in the Henley Green/Wood End/Bell Green area is the existence of a helpful, friendly community spirit: People are very helpful and help one another and they stick together the neighbours are friendly. Parents were asked to identify any positive family support services for those living in Wood End, Henley Green and Bell Green.
