ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the ways in which the work of the project was developed and explores the processes involved in working with parents and groups in the area. It presents some of the views of parents and workers about the importance of paying attention to processes of working and to people’s experience in attempting to meet needs. The chapter considers issues for agencies, workers and local people in working together to improve the social environment and life chances of families and children. The values and principles on which the project was based demanded a long term commitment to work alongside people in the local community, to involve them fully in decisions about the way information would be used and what future work would be done. Throughout the life of the project arrangements for childcare demanded careful organization and took up a high proportion of the worker’s time.
