ABSTRACT
This chapter reviews some of the outcomes of the wide range of activities — relevant to the safety and wellbeing of children and families — taking place in the Henley area during the life of the project. It considers the implications of the findings and experience of the project for planning neighbourhood strategies which may increase the effectiveness of child protection services, reduce harm to children and improve the quality of life for children and their families. The Henley Safe Children Project was set up for a limited period, to work in partnership with local parents and workers from voluntary and statutory organizations, to document child protection and family support needs in the area, and encourage the development of preventive services. Following the implementation of the 1989 Children Act, local authorities were obliged to consider the range of services which they should provide for children in their areas who are in need and their family support services.
