This chapter provides a number of themes which emerge from the earlier discussion and addresses the issues emanating from the effects of commercialisation and privatisation in the Polish maritime industries. Shipping being what it is however, has created a new situation of intense commercialism that the Polish market has grasped fully and despite continued state involvement at all levels and to a substantial degree, each of the companies is moving forwards in restructuring in anticipation of complete and full privatisation. The complexity of company ownership and involvement has become severe however, as a result of the need to avoid taxation, prevent seizure of assets and as the natural entrepreneurial spirit of Polish shipping interests raises its head. The shipping companies expressed considerable agitation at the fiercely competitive attitude of Maersk Line which provides container feeder services from Gdynia and the ferry operators fears expressed at the expansion of Lion Ferry operated and owned by Stena Line of Sweden.
