ABSTRACT
I have preferred the term ‘Particles’ for the invariable parts of speech—except adverbs, which are somewhat more clearly defined—because the words which act as prepositions and conjunctions may be—and often are—used in other ways, and, in fact, they usually prove, on examination, to be different parts of speech altogether.
