ABSTRACT

A visit to Ceylon would not be wasted if, amongst all its ornaments of antiquity, Sigiriya alone was visited. Ruined buildings of different ages are ubiquitous, but it is doubtful if anywhere a parallel could be found to this great rock palace, with its unique historical and artistic associations. Before describing the individual beauties of Sigiriya it will be appropriate briefly to relate the stirring events to which the palace owes its existence.
