ABSTRACT

The Consistency principle suggests a core approach characteristic to all modules. A core helps a student to know what to expect as they progress from module to module, and assists tutors and lead academics in providing consistent, high-quality engagement with students. Initial tutor contact and the initial module experience were designed to provide a first-time student with context, contact and reassurance. Ellen talked mostly about the design of her module in terms of learning outcomes. The move towards digital distance education (DDE) brought the pedagogical activities of Ellen’s module into a closer alignment with actual practice. Underpinning her account is a dedication to student outcomes and success, and a respect for the subject that translates well into the overall core. Yasmin enrolled in a DDE degree because of the flexibility it provides. Yasmin enrolled in her degree in social work programme having successfully completed her highest secondary school qualification and she is largely an independent learner.
