ABSTRACT
The Kedma school’s memorial service for the fallen soldiers was part of Israel’s national memorial day. The national memorial day for the Fallen Soldiers represents a special, and even sacred, civil religion event in the Jewish-Israeli national culture. Remembrance day commemorates the fallen Israel defense forces soldiers that were killed in action, as well as soldiers that died of various reasons while serving in the army. The schools’ Remembrance day ceremony is a ritual constructed by the Ministry of Education in order to preserve and bequeath the national ethos and collective memory. Kedma’s ceremony stood out from the traditional ceremony by re-interpreting the dimensions of time and space that characterise the national commemorative culture. A different way of belonging was also manifested through the Kedma ceremony’s soundtrack. Music plays a pivotal role in the process of nation building.
