ABSTRACT

This chapter explains the rationale and principles of change management and will support SENCos in strategic development, planning and implementation of change. The importance of communication and the emotional response to change are explored. Alternative ways of working with people to achieve sustainable outcomes are discussed. Action Research principles are outlined as a way of giving change management a structure. Two models of leadership and change management (Knoster 1991; Bolman & Deal 1997) are explained in some depth, theoretically, politically and practically. The pace of change in education is not abating, and this chapter aims to facilitate sustainable outcomes.
