ABSTRACT

This chapter begins with descriptions of the roles and responsibilities in connection with whole-school SEND policy and practice. First, the duties of governors and trustees are briefly outlined. Next, aspects of the SENCo’s role are discussed in more detail, including the SENCo’s role in leading and managing others, time management, the SEN budget and the question of whether the SENCo is a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT). Aspects of the development and maintenance of a whole-school approach are outlined. These themes continue in all later chapters, particularly in Chapter 9 and Chapter 10 . Activity 1 offers an audit of SEND policy. This chapter may be of particular interest to governors and trustees.
