ABSTRACT

This chapter explains core aspects of the SENCo’s administrative work, including working with governors, trustees and senior leadership, and clarifies responsibilities, including the SENCO’s role in provision management. The process of applying for EHCPs and the conduct of Annual Reviews are explained. The importance of involving and listening to children, young people and their parents in these processes is emphasised. Information on the SEND Tribunal has been updated, including advice on the SENCo’s role, if required to give evidence. Key points in preparing for Ofsted are discussed. Practical advice is given on how data may be organised and presented. Governors and trustees may find this chapter helpful in considering the SEN budget and the SENCo’s role.
