ABSTRACT

“Failure-to-train” lawsuits and the growing complexities of criminal justice occupations have provided much of the impetus behind making current, correct, and comprehensive training a major managerial responsibility. A training plan can include three major approaches to preparing the new employee for his or her initial work in the organization: on-the-job training, in-house training, and contracted-out training. The professional competencies involve education, training, and skill acquisition at the core of the profession, so that the student learns the essential duties of the office. The American Bar Association has a long record of providing training seminars for practicing member attorneys, in and out of public practice. “Occupational socialization is the process by which a person acquires the values, attitudes, and behaviors of an ongoing occupational social system”. Symbolic management includes the interpretations of events in an organization, which are often more important than the events themselves.
