ABSTRACT

This chapter present scenarios that are designed to give the reader an opportunity to see and understand how the ideas, thoughts, and research can be used in everyday situations. The scenarios that require collaborative decision-making in very different situations, which are all common within education. Each scenario describes a practical situation, how it is commonly handled by those involved, and key ways the situation can be improved. This is done in a step-by-step process that highlights key changes that demonstrate the difference between success and failure when it comes to shared decision-making and the use of candor. Collaborative decision-making is a difficult process that requires a skilled leader to orchestrate a productive meeting. The scenarios cover three predominant collaborative decision-making pitfalls that leaders fall into—The What, The Out, and The Blame.
