The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) cut across social, environmental and economic issues, as well as governance and means of implementation. Many of these goals fall squarely within the domain of International Fund for Agricultural Development's (IFAD) work to eradicate rural poverty and food insecurity and to make investments to raise smallholder productivity and incomes, but progress on any goal requires coordinated action on others. Some insights into the process of evaluating work on the SDGs were gained soon after Agenda 2030 was adopted. In November 2015, IFAD hosted a technical seminar. The objective of the seminar was to contribute to a shared understanding of how SDG 2 could be evaluated and to identify actions needed to enable evaluations of SDG 2 throughout the United Nations system, other international organizations, or member countries themselves. IFAD is moving decisively into engaging the private sector in the operations it funds.
